Thanks to the incredible interest and generosity of our friends, pre-orders of Andy Mahler and the Hoosier National will be delivered the week of Sept. 26.
I have approved the final electronic proof. The presses are scheduled to roll on Sept. 23.
While Andy sadly will not be joining me as we had hoped, I will be the solo guest at two public events in Bloomington following its release:
- Morgenstern Books: Slideshow and talk, Tuesday, Oct. 28, 6-7 p.m.
- Juniper Art Gallery: Book Club Author of the Month, Wednesday, Nov. 19, 4-5:30 p.m.
I will also be the featured speaker at the annual Heartwood Reunion in Orange County on Friday, Oct. 3.

After 50 years of anticipation, I was nervous when I drove over to World Arts Inc. in Spencer to inspect four page samples of actual photos on the actual paper. As the very last hurdle to clear, I was prepared to be disappointed. Absolutely no connection between my trepidation and their reputation.
To the contrary, when my rep Paige laid the hi res samples of four photos I had chosen on the table, I felt my face explode. I would have been satisfied if I had printed them myself on my once state-of-the-art Epson printer that I still have but is certainly inoperable at this point. She will give those prints to the press people so they can match the color exactly.
World Arts service couldn’t have been better.I can’t recommend them too much.
I was once married to a Spencer High homecoming queen and have a long history with the place. I celebrated at my fave local pub the Civilian Brewing Corp.

In other news, through pre-orders and contributions we have enough cash on hand to fight printing and contributions on two print runs.
One particularly generous friend told me that I can use her contribution to provide free copies to any cause I find worthy, of which for me includes Indy booksellers. Juniper Gallery is my first customer, and I will be giving them the first five copies for free.
I have also told the Indiana Forest Alliance that I will be contributing proceeds to support a project to get another bill before the U.S. Congress to expand the Charles C. Deam Wilderness.
